About us

Media and Migration Association (MMA) is a civil society organization committed to fostering an objective, pluralist, inclusive, and right-based media perspective on migration in Turkey.

Since its establishment in 2020, MMA has been actively conducting media monitoring research to tackle disinformation and hate speech targeting refugee and migrant communities in the country. Our main goal is to provide informative media content and empower the right-based representation of refugees and migrants in Turkey's media landscape. In pursuit of this goal, MMA also develops awareness and advocacy campaigns, training series, and inter-disciplinary collaborations with various stakeholders in the field of media and migration.

Our Vision

  • Supporting the production and producers of objective, pluralist, inclusive, participative, media content on migration by empowering the right-based migration journalism.
  • Empowering the representation and visibility of universally declared rights for migrants, refugees, and displaced persons in traditional and digital media.
  • Supporting the representation of media content producers in traditional & digital media and their access to freedom of expression without discrimination of any kind based on race, color, national or ethnic origin, language, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation and gender identity, disability, political or other opinions.
  • To ensure the sustainability of right-based content production on migration, developing interdisciplinary collaborations at local and international levels with media content producers, media organizations, civil society bodies, public administrations, scientific research institutions, and culture & art organizations.

Monitoring and Data Collection

To detect the dynamics of media and migration,  MMA firstly conducts monitoring, data collection, and evaluation processes by adopting research techniques depending on scientific methods. Based on the collected data, MMA presents the works below: Research and Analysis Reports

Media Content Production and Support

To increase the visibility of gathered data on media & migration, MMA produces authentic media content, establishes necessary publishing & broadcasting platforms, and develops interdisciplinary projects and cooperations.

Besides the production of media content, MMA provides assistance for the media content producers (i.e., provision of data, counselor support, facilities for publishing & broadcasting) through its data centers and counselor networks to encourage objective, pluralist, inclusive, participative, and right-based media content on migration.The actions taken by the MMA in this context are indicated below:
